Position
Title: Senior Business Continuity Specialist (Interim)
Location: Utrecht (hybrid, 2 days per week in the office)
Working hours: Full-time
Language: English (mandatory)
Role purpose
You will ensure critical IT domains have high-quality Business Continuity Plans and effective, risk-based exercises delivered to a high standard within short timelines. Your work will help services continue, recover and respond effectively during disruption.
Key responsibilities
You will focus on:
Creating new, high-quality Business Continuity Plans for highly complex IT domains.
Developing practical continuity solutions, including recovery strategies, workarounds, response priorities, dependencies, roles and responsibilities.
Preparing strategic choices for impactful recovery strategies, with analysis and short- and long-term implementation actions.
Working with operational teams to gather input, validate assumptions and understand practical constraints.
Preparing and facilitating risk-based BCM exercises that go beyond basic walkthroughs or call-tree tests.
Updating Business Impact Analyses and risk assessments and increasing their maturity.
Sharing knowledge so the approach, choices and quality standards can be understood and reused after the assignment.
Documenting exercise outcomes, lessons learned, improvement actions and supporting management reporting on BCM lifecycle progress.
Skills and experience required
At least 7 years of experience in Business Continuity Management.
Hands-on, proven experience creating Business Continuity Plans and defining continuity strategies for complex environments and multiple scenarios, including third-party loss.
Experience preparing and facilitating BCM exercises that test more than basic procedures.
Ability to interpret requirements and regulation and translate them into practical implementation, or in-depth experience with DORA.
Practical experience in an IT environment and working with operational and IT stakeholders.
Execution-focused, able to work independently, prioritise effectively and deliver high-quality work within short timelines.
Ability to coach others practically, explain BCM approach clearly and raise maturity while delivering concrete outputs.
Professional fluency in English and ability to produce clear, high-quality documentation.
Preference for candidates already based in the Netherlands and availability to start as soon as possible.
Preferred qualifications
Experience in vital or regulated sectors (financial services, oil & gas, telecom or similar) with strict availability requirements.
Experience with Archer or comparable BCM, risk or control tooling.
BCM-related certification such as MBCI/FBCI, ISO 22301 Lead Implementer, or equivalent.

- Have directly performed BIAs, RAMAs, BCP development, and BCM exercises
- Have worked in complex IT and regulated environments
- Are execution-focused and able to independently deliver BCM lifecycle outputs
- Have practical experience working with operational and IT stakeholders
- You have at least 7 years of experience in Business Continuity Management
- You have hands-on and proven experience creating Business Continuity Plans and defining continuity strategies for complex environments and a variety of scenarios, including at least losses of third parties
- You have experience preparing and facilitating a range of BCM exercises that test more than basic procedures
- You have experience in an IT environment
- You are professionally fluent in English
Gunningscriteria
- Are already based in the Netherlands (preferred)
- Experience in vital sectors, such as financial services, oil and gas, telecom or similarly regulated environments with strict availability requirements
- Experience with Archer or comparable BCM, risk or control tooling
- BCM-related certification, such as MBCI/FBCI, ISO 22301 Lead Implementer, or equivalent
