Senior Data Engineer (Azure Synapse & Databricks) - Application360 Data Products
Role overview
You will work on strategic Application360 Data Products that provide trusted, integrated insights into an application landscape. This role combines hands-on engineering, data product development, platform stewardship and solution evolution, including the transition from an Azure Synapse implementation towards a Databricks-based platform.
Responsibilities
Technical ownership: Take technical responsibility for Application360 Data Products.
Design, build, maintain and optimise data pipelines using Azure Synapse and Databricks.
Analyse current implementations and identify improvements for reliability, scalability, data quality and maintainability.
Translate business requirements into technical solutions in close collaboration with Business Analysts.
Support definition and implementation of the target-state architecture for Application360, including ownership-related data products.
Create and refine PBIs for knowledge transfer, technical debt reduction, operational improvements and future development.
Develop scalable ELT/ETL frameworks and reusable components following Medallion Architecture principles.
Build and maintain APIs and data products for consistent access to Application360 information.
Participate in architecture discussions and technical design decisions.
Improve CI/CD processes, testing standards, monitoring, data quality controls and operational excellence.
Collaborate with other squads on product evolution, shared capabilities and future ownership of features.
Requirements
Experience: Minimum 5+ years as a Data Engineer.
Technical skills: Strong hands-on experience with Azure Synapse Analytics; experience with Azure Databricks and Lakehouse architectures; strong SQL and Python development skills; experience with PySpark and distributed data processing.
Experience designing and implementing ELT/ETL pipelines, data modelling and data warehousing concepts, and working in Azure cloud environments.
Experience with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
Strong communication skills and stakeholder management capabilities.
Ability to work independently, take responsibility and drive work forward.
Languages: English and Dutch mandatory.
Preferred experience
Applying Medallion Architecture patterns.
Experience with Delta Lake and Unity Catalog.
Supporting or executing platform migrations.
Building and operating data products in large enterprise environments.
Understanding of API-based integrations.
Experience with application landscape, configuration or ownership data is an advantage.
Banking or financial services experience.
